Public Hunting Land Profile 1.2

DFG Camp Cady Wildlife Area - San Bernardino County, California

cadymap.jpg

Camp Cady is an area of public hunting land in the High Desert of San Bernardino County, California that is administered by Quail Unlimited and the Department of Fish and Game.

Hunting pressure is light during the summer portion of the cottontail rabbit season, becoming heavy during the first few weekends of the dove season, alternating between moderate to moderately light thereafter.  Terrain ranges from flat cultivated field to fairly flat desert scrub with moderate brush coverage and good cheat grass propagation.

Game Species

Gambel's quail, jackrabbit, and cottontail rabbit are found throughout this area.  Populations of all three are variable but typically abundant.  Mourning doves can be present in modest numbers during the open season for them, though the numbers aren't as high as they are in "hot spots" like the Imperial Valley.

If You Go......

Camp Cady is located about 17 miles east of Barstow.  To get there, take I-15 north from Barstow, and exit at Harvard Road. Proceed eastbound on Harvard RoadHarvard Road drops down into the Mojave River Wash and after cresting the rise on the other side, you'll see a dirt road off to the left, which leads to Camp Cady.

This wildlife area is managed by Quail Unlimited for the Department of Fish and Game.  It consists of about 1,870 acres which are roughly bisected by the Mojave River.

Given the small size and flat topography of the area, a topo map really isn't of high value, hence the omission of USGS topo map information in this profile.

With Barstow being the thriving, "all grown up" place that it is, every type of service a traveller / visitor could want is easily found there.

Quail Unlimited hosts a number of events at Camp Cady throughout the year, some of which might be in conflict with your hunting plans.

Contact (530) 495-2570 for further information on hunting this area.
